About Miniøya
Miniøya is an annual music and culture festival in Tøyen Park, Oslo, for children and youngsters. Miniøya was arranged for the first time in 2010.
Our vision is to have the courage to move in a new direction and create experiences for children and young people that will surprise them and involve them. We believe they not only accept the challenge this involves – but also actually want it! We dare to look afresh at current norms and values.
Miniøya is a quality event, setting standards that are commensurate with those at similar events for adults. Miniøya is a meeting-place for different genres and forms of cultural expression, offering not just a broad range of music genres but also a prominent place in the programme to dance, theatre, visual art, film and other visual forms of expression. In addition to our main stages ”Amfiet” and ”Teltet”, we have smaller inter-active stages and arenas, including a drawing tent, a theatre tent, a music workshop and an art tent. Children can participate in theatre make-up, drawing, workshops, mini-journalism and many other exciting activities.
We work in partnership with established cultural institutions and with other artistic groups. When working with professional artists, children and youngsters will share decision-making and responsibility. Miniøya puts great emphasis on children’s and young people’s openness and their ability to recognise good quality when they work with different art forms.
In 2011 over 12000 children, young people and adults came to the festival. In 2012 we expect even more.
Practical information
Tøyen Park lies on gently rising ground between the Munch Museum and Tøyen swimming-pool, across the road from the Botanical Garden. The park lies on land belonging to Tøyen farm, and was first transformed into a public park in the 1950s, with improvements being made later. The park is unique, being a natural amphitheatre, and with a fine view over Oslo and to the beautiful Botanical Garden.

Parking places for private cars are limited.
Age limits
Miniøya is a festival exclusively for children and young people. It is Norway’s only festival with an upper age limit of 16; this means that anyone over 16 can only be admitted if he or she is accompanying children.
People with mobility disabilities
Tøyen Park is accessible for wheelchair users and special toilets for people with mobility disabilities will be in place.
For further information, enquiries should be made at the entrance.
People accompanying
Disabled people who are being accompanied should buy tickets in the normal way. The person accompanying can register for accreditation prior to the festival on the special application form (see below).

What can not be taken into the festival area?
The use of roller skates, skateboards or bicycles is banned in Tøyen Park during the festival. This is for safety reasons. Also banned are umbrellas, portable barbecues or animals (with the exception of guide dogs).
Tiny tots
A special facility will be in place for nappy-changing. Ear-muffs will also be on sale (although sound-levels from the stages will be appropriate for children).
Volunteers
Maybe you would like a job as a volunteer helper at Miniøya. We need volunteers to carry out a host of jobs — some large, some small — before, during and after the festival. You decide whether to help for one day or several days. We greatly appreciate any help you can give.
